Q-Energy V, our real asset and natural resource fund, is the majority owner of the leading platform in gas-to-grid development – Acorn Bioenergy Limited.
The goal
With our combined resources and expertise, our goal is to become the leading producer of renewable energy gas in the UK. Our experience across upstream (feedstock sourcing), midstream (construction and operation of biomethane plants), and downstream (injection into the grid and commercialisation), allows us to deliver successful projects through an innovative and sustainable virtual pipeline model.
To realise our ambitions, we’re building 15 anaerobic digestion plants across England and Scotland. The result will be 1,200 m3/h (per project) of biomethane, a type of renewable natural gas obtained from waste treatment, reducing CO2 emissions. This will create approximately 100,000 MWh per annum, delivered from 4 gas injection hubs.
Sustainable operations are always a strong focus for us. As such, these plants will use agricultural waste, animal manure and break crops to produce biomethane, and return nutrients to the soil as solid and liquid digestate. We also intend to capture all the CO2 produced as we purify biogas to create biomethane . This is all part of our commitment to hitting the UK’s net zero targets with innovative solutions.
Carnegie, our battery project, is strategically located near Liverpool to provide 57 MW (114 MWh) of flexible storage to capture and discharge the energy from the UK’s ever expanding renewable power network.
It’s construction ready with all the needed permits and authorisations. We’re targeting an operational date of early 2025, and recently secured a 15-year capacity market contract.
We have over 16 years of experience developing solar and wind projects across Spain, Germany, Italy, and Poland, unlocking value across Europe.

Combined with our local team’s deep understanding of the UK market and a wide range of technologies, we’ll identify and seize the most promising opportunities for our partners. We’ll lead the entire process from project evaluation to final construction, giving you the benefit of our strong industry network, cutting-edge technology providers, and comprehensive knowledge of the UK solar PV and wind energy market.
